The Good Earth, by Pearl S. Buck was my reading while traveling to Bintan. A story of the stark realities of human nature, the effects of pride and prosperity, and the conflict between wealth and peace. A look into pre-revolutionary China. The story caused me to think about the historical dilemmas of woman in Asia and all the world. The book is clean but implies a lot. I would give it a PG/PG13 rating. A heavy, thoughtful read. Four stars (out of five).
Peal S. Buck won the Pulitzer Prize for this novel.
