In many ways Beijing is very different than Seoul. The roads in Beijing are wider and less crowded. There are areas of small villiage-like homes right next to brand new department stores and hotels, which gives the city a feeling of past and present all rolled into one; a city emerging and transitioning. Beijing has lots of bikers. I rarely see bikers in Seoul. Seoul seems to have a stronger Western influence commercially and politically, although this is rapidly changing in Beijing. South Korea's average individual salary is: $20,000/year, China's: $2,000/year.

I like it because it's telling the children what a great treasure they are.
I sometimes wish I could travel as my sisters do - one is now living in Cyprus, and one travels all over the world doing this and that, as do my parents. My parents have been EVERYWHERE. =D
But then I look at my children and I think maybe I'm traveling different places that are just as beautiful. =) Discovering depths to them and myself that are just as incredible as sailing down the yangtzee...
And maybe when we're older we'll travel the world.
Or maybe not as Bert's kind of a homebody. HA! =D

What a trip to China, and how timely with the Olympics.
I am glad you got to go. Good timing before the baby comes and all. <> I have just read the other comments. Yes, being home can be an adventure. Whether home or away, enjoy the adventure ladies! My youngest just turned 10 and we got to go to Mexico for a wedding. I enjoyed showing her how the world is different in different countries. It was a great break for me too. So never say Never. Just different chapters of motherhood.
Traveling is a REAL education, I think. Wow. And thanks, EM, for sharing that poem.

That is a huge difference in income! And I love the pic of the two people holding hands.
2000/year... That seems about what dave brings home, maybe a bit of a raise even. Hmm, maybe we should move.
